Crafty kids at Summer SPLAT

As part of South Northamptonshire Council’s (SNC) popular SPLAT (Sports, Play, Leisure and ArTs) activity programme this summer, children are being offered the opportunity to experiment creatively with three fun arts and crafts activities.

Cllr Karen Cooper, SNC’s portfolio holder for community and well-being said: “It can be challenging keeping children entertained during the long summer holidays, but the SPLAT Team at SNC work hard to put together a fun and varied programme of activities and workshops.

“The arts and crafts sessions are a fantastic inclusion in this programme and should prove hugely enjoyable for the children taking part.”

There will be three activity days to choose from, running during August in the Education Room at The Canal Museum in Stoke Bruerne. The workshop programme comprises:

Wednesday, 10 August, ‘Animation Station Creations’ - children can learn how to make their own mini stop-frame animation, like that used to create Pingu and Morph. Sessions will run from 10am until 12pm for children aged five to 10 (children aged five or six must be accompanied by an adult) and from 1pm to 3.30pm for 10 to 15 year olds

Wednesday, 17 August, ‘Colourful Clay’ - make a Fantasy Fairy House jar complete with flickering light or a Perfect Pirate Treasure Chest using colourful polymer clay. Sessions run from 10am to 12pm for children aged five to 12 (children aged five to seven must be accompanied by an adult) and 1pm to 3pm for ages nine to 14

Wednesday, 24 August, ‘Ancient Travels Painting’- join artist Shashi Chana to see how to paint on wood and create your own wall hanging. Session runs from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm for children aged eight to 14

The cost for each session is £10 including all materials and £20 if booking both morning and afternoon. Children are asked to bring lunch and a drink as well as an apron or messy clothes for clay and painting workshops.

There is also a café nearby for parents and families, should they require refreshments.
